Jason Smith, Plumber

Your Plumbing Questions Answered

Q. Why is your course cheaper than all the others I have seen?

A. We aim to offer a high standard of training and keep our overheads to a minimum in order to continually offer great value for money to our trainees.

Q. How can I possibly become a qualified plumber within 8 weeks when it takes years at college?

A. College is aimed at school leavers who are young and inexperienced, and the course is usually on a day release basis, as a result much of the work covered there needs to be repeated. At our centre the course is designed for adults who, by their very nature, are more worldly wise and ready to learn in a condensed manner. When you leave us you will be qualified and equipped to undertake most domestic plumbing work.

Q. What if I attend a job and find difficulties - even if I have learned all you have taught me?

A. There are bound to be occasions - particularly the first time you undertake a job - when you feel a lack of confidence, but don't worry we are only a phone call away. Our telephone support is there to help you make a success of your new career.

Q. Do your courses lead to recognised qualifications?

A. Yes, we are a City & Guilds and BPEC Approved Centre. See our website pages for details of these courses. Our qualifications will allow you to become a self-employed domestic plumber.

Q. Do I need any plumbing experience or qualifications?

A. No - all you need is the willingness to learn and be of a practical nature.

Q. Do I need any tools or safety equipment?

A. No - on the 8 week course we provide you with everything you will need. With many of our courses you receive free safety equipment and toolkits to take away with you.

Q. I don't like the idea of spending money without meeting you and seeing your centre, can that be arranged?

A. Of course it can. Just give us a call and we will arrange to give you a tour of the centre, have a cup of tea, meet the centre staff and answer any questions you have.

Q. I want to come on your course but finances are a little tight, is there anything you can do to help?

A. Yes we have a range of agencies we can put you in touch with who can help individuals with finances. As a starting point why not try www.direct.gov.uk or ring 0800 585 505 for funding advice.

Q. I live too far away to travel - can you recommend any accommodation?

A. Yes, we have access to several hotels and guest houses in the local area with a range of charges to suit all pockets. In fact, if you add the cost of our course to the cost of our accommodation, it is slightly less than the course cost alone of many other training centres.

Q. I haven't been in a classroom situation for many years - is this a problem?

A. No - we keep our groups small enough to give individual attention and our friendly and experienced trainers present the information in small, understandable chunks. Only morning sessions are used for classroom work , afternoons are spent putting your theory into practise in our well equipped training bays.

Q. Do you provide all the classroom materials?

A. Yes, we supply you with all the relevant books, papers and handouts.

Q. Do you train service leavers?

A. Yes of course. We welcome people from all walks of life.

Q. Do you provide any support after the course finishes?

A. Yes - our teachers and trainers are only a phone call away. They are at hand to help you with problems of a business or practical nature.
